The Cliffs at Glassy - Landrum - South Carolina

A few days ago I and my wife got to create a few images of the cliffs at glassy. This is a personal project that I will be working on documenting the beauty of the seasons, architecture to provide a visual picture of what its like to live there, rise to breath taking sun rises each morning or let’s say to play golf with those whom you would consider to be the closest of friends, or a retired couple living at the cliffs and so on. The staff at glassy are incredible, I absolutely love the team of people whom I’ve had a chance to meet and work with. I look forward to posting more images in the coming days. Stay tuned!

Business Portraits for Kitchens of the South, Hendersonville, North Carolina

We just wrapped up a business portrait shoot for Kitchens of the South in Hendersonville, North Carolina. On this shoot we utilized the available light and one strobe to create a beautiful soft light. I also had to block of light using a black scrim to avoid reflections and cut out large window light coming from the front.

The detail captured in the Hasselblad X2D 100 using a XCD 55mmV lens is simply stunning. I love it!! Can’t wait for them to make the 90mm V series lens to be available soon. This is why I love the medium format system and when it comes to hasselblad color science it is brilliant.

Using strobe to create a warm and inviting look to this business lounge - Sheraton Link

In this image I want to share an example of what a strobe lit interior space looks like. I have used a single strobe to light up the space in multiple angles to bring up the exposure to reveal shadows and texture. There are times when the ambient light is just perfect, but in this image notice how dark the space is without the strobe. The difference is simply amazing! This is one of the main reasons why I choose to use strobes in architectural shoots. This technique elevates the images. It is definitely a time consuming process setting up the lighting and blending them in post. But, it is worth it!!

How to achieve good results when photographing interiors?

I get asked this all the time. Why do I use strobes when photographing an interior space? Although ambient life is a go to for many photographers, there are times I utilize strobes in order to achieve results to show color and detail. In this image, though there was large glass window letting in ambient light, I needed to add a little pop of light to bring out the color of the furniture and fill in the shadows a bit.
